Lunu Miris and Papadums

This is a popular dish on the former Island of Ceylon (now known as Sri Lanka). This dish is made purely out of onions. It’s wonderful as a bite with crackers, rice, Papadums or even tortilla chips.

  • 10 Papadums (optionally, tortilla chips)
  • 1 onion
  • 3 red chilies
  • 1 small tomato
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon of crushed ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste

Blend the onion, chilies, tomato, ginger, chili powder, salt, black pepper into a coarse texture.

You can also use a mortar and pestle to blend ingredients if you don’t have a blender. Add salt/pepper as needed.

Papadum

You can buy this at any supermarket in the asian section. Deep fry till slightly brown. Serve as a condiment with the lunameris.

You can use tortilla chips as well if you don’t want to use papadums.
